Solomon Brothers Jewelers acquires family-owned Mervis Diamond Importers
Jewelry retail
Atlanta-based Solomon Brothers Jewelers has acquired Mervis Diamond Importers, a family-owned diamond retailer founded by brothers Zed and Ronnie Mervis, with showrooms in Washington, D.C., Rockville and Arlington.
News: Founders sell a four-decade-old family retailer but stay in the business, keeping the name, showrooms and team in place.
Why it matters: Solomon Brothers calls the deal a template for a possible expansion model, its first move outside the Atlanta-area market.
Radar: Watch for further Solomon Brothers acquisitions of independent family-owned jewelers in other US metro markets.
